Who We Are

Building Christ Centered Skateboard Communities

SkateMin Asia exists to create Christ centered skate community on a continent that is mostly unengaged with the gospel. Our heart is to engage the skate communities where God has planted us. A big vision for a small crew but believe God is a God who can do the impossible and that all orchards start with one seed.

Our Story

2015

China

What started out as a need in China grew into a network of skateboard missionaries, local and foreign, living in Asia. A team of six skaters was seeking the Lord on what they were supposed to name their ministry while serving collectively in Southern Asia. Together, they landed on the name SkateMin Asia. Attempting to fly under the radar, they changed skate ministry to skatemin and decided to put Asia instead of China, not knowing what God had in mind.

2017

Team Split

For various reasons, four of the six skaters, who were serving in southern Asia, left and went back to their home country or went to serve somewhere else. Two skaters were left to serve the skate community, and after about six months, one skater felt the Lord’s leading to focus on schooling.

During this season, TJ Tamayo and his Wife Katrina contemplated leaving the mission field also, but after seeking the Lord and dealing with some hardships in Asia, they felt led to relocate to Taiwan.

2018

Taiwan

The Tamayo family moved to Taiwan with the primary focus of working with skaters, serving the local church, and creating a Christ-centered community.

2019

Olympics Prep

SkateMin Asia led its first mission trip to Japan. This team was planning and preparing a skate outreach for Skateboarding's introduction to the Olympics. After praying over the skate venues, visiting Yokohama skatepark, building connections at the skatepark, and sharing the Gospel with Japanese skaters, the team was excited about the upcoming outreach. The team even had the opportunity to connect with pastors from Hongadai church for the first time.

2021

Visa

TJ Tamayo attempted to start a skate company in Taiwan but found it difficult to start up. Although it was difficult, the Lord gave them a three-year visa so they could live, serve, and work with Taiwanese skaters.

2024

A New Beginning

TJ, Dale, Minori and Jordan attend an Action Sports Conference in Japan. There have always been talks about the four committing to SMA together, but this trip sealed the deal. They all left feeling fired up and ready to serve the skate community in their own capacity.

In the fall the SMA website is launched with SMA's first fully support raised missionary Dale.
