Tj Tamayo

My name is TJ Tamayo and I have been skating for 25 years and serving the skate community for 12. After doing youth ministry at my local church for 3 years, my wife and two boys felt the call to leave our position at the church and enter into full-time skate ministry in Asia. We started our journey at a disclosed location in Southern Asia, where we worked with skaters, hosted skate ministry teams, helped out with a skate company, created inspirational skate devotionals, put on skate events, and more. While I was with skaters, my wife was helping out in rural villages, launched a home church, and was the backbone of the hospitality side of our skate ministry, showing that you don’t need to be a skater to reach skaters. We did our best to share the Gospel with anybody willing to listen. After spending three and a half years in Southern Asia, we felt the Lord call us to Taiwan. It was a tough move, but we knew God was leading us to do it. 

During our time in Taiwan we pioneered skate communities, gave skate lessons, engaged unreached skaters, hosted skate camps, served the local church, small groups and more. Our family was in Taiwan for five years before God called us back to America, but we know he has a plan and a purpose. 

Now that we are in America, our heart still beats for skaters from the Asian skate community. While we were in Asia, we saw a deep need for a Christ-centered skate community, and we still want to see that happen. Though we are “home,” our desire is to share the vision of SMA, raise awareness for our team serving abroad, lead teams on short-term trips, serve our local skate community, and bloom where God plants us
